It is still cold and the snow covers the mountains. Yesterday I was guiding a birding tour which was broadcasted live on the national radio station. We had a good trip with about 20 participants. The highlights were 5 Slavonian Grebes in summer plumage, my first Great Skua of the year, two Red-throated Divers that gave really good views and the expected Iceland Gulls and a single Glaucous Gull.
Today I checked Viðareiði and Hvannasund. At Viðareiði about 50 Golden Plovers were present and in Hvannasund I saw my first phyllo of the year – a chiffchaff along with good numbers of Redwings.
I’ll go to Turkey for the next few days but when I return in a little more than a week the country will hopefully be full of migrants (hopefully birds I’ve just seen in Turkey).
